This guided tour of the "Quartier Balnéaire" (seaside district), listed as a "protected area", takes you back through the milestones that led this small fishing village to become a major seaside resort on the Picardy Coast. A guided tour lasting around 1h30 retraces the history of the seaside district (1865-1905), which has been classified as an outstanding heritage site. With the discovery of sea bathing and its therapeutic benefits, Mers underwent spectacular development. At the end of the 19th century, the railroad brought to our shores the first holidaymakers known as "bathers". These bathers, drawn from the aristocracy and wealthy bourgeoisie of the time, were to settle here, building the first second homes of our modern world.
