Self-guided tour (brochure available from the Mers, Eu and Le Tréport TAOs) or guided tour along the esplanade du Général Leclerc, where villas from the remarkable heritage site boast bow-windows, elaborate balconies, colorful facades and ceramics that bear witness to the charm of the Belle Epoque. The opening of the Paris-Le Tréport-Mers railroad line in 1873 contributed to the birth of the Mers-les-Bains resort. Well-to-do families from northern France took advantage of the benefits of sea bathing and built their own holiday homes. Life here revolves around the esplanade, bordered on one side by an area classified as a Remarkable Heritage Site with almost 400 colorful villas, and on the other by a beach where monochrome cabins flourish in summer.
