In Ault, the Bois de Cise, a seaside housing estate created at the end of the 19th century, is a remnant of a primitive forest along the coast, on the edge of a cliff.
The visit provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges of biodiversity in an inhabited wood, in the middle of an agricultural area, on the edge of a cliff, and of biodiversity at sea.
Led by Thierry Rigaux from Picardie Nature and members of the Ault Environnement association, this walk crosses the southern slope of the wood to discover remarkable trees, then joins the coastal path to the Bois du Rompval.
    Booking essential.

The walk begins at the edge of the Bois, along the agricultural plateau. This first sequence raises questions about the impact of farming practices on the environment. As you enter the wood, you'll discover some remarkable trees, and discuss invasive plant species and the management of afforestation on this listed site. The climb back up to the Chemin du Grand Mont provides an opportunity to discuss the vegetation at the edge of the forest and the phenomenon of anemomorphosis, before reaching the orientation table on the edge of the cliff. The walk continues along the coastal path through the meadow, an opportunity to discuss the evolution of the coastline while observing the Ault cliffs and the Baie de Somme pebble beach. The other side offers a view of the beach at Mers-les-Bains and the port of Le Tréport, providing an opportunity to discuss the impact of wind turbines at sea and the consequences of overfishing.
Birdwatching and the environment in which they live are offered throughout the walk, as are insects and other animals. On this bird migration mecca, any questions about this fascinating behavior can be addressed.
